12/7/2023 0 Comments Crop sensor vs frame ratioWhy? Because, of course, a thick glass tube used to surround the sensors. But if you look at the chart above you’ll see that a 1/2.7″ sensor actually has a diagonal of 6.7 mm. If you do the math 1/2.7 equals 0.37 inches, which equals 9.39 mm. Why do manufacturers keep using such an archaic measurement? Because it helps them lie to you, of course. That measurement system originated in ancient times (the 1950s to 1980s) when vacuum tubes were used instead of CCD or CMOS sensors in video and television cameras. The image sensor was, in those days, referred to in terms of the outside diameter of the vacuum tube that contained it.Ī video camera tube (courtesy Wikepedia Commons) But it’s easy to find how big a 4/3 sensor is in mm.īut then we get into all of these fractional-inch-type-measurements for the smaller sensors. The 4/3 marketing people probably thought “half as big as full frame” wasn’t a good way to present things, so 4/3 it was. Larger sensors are measured in millimeters: full-frame, Super 35mm, APS-C, etc. (Get it, “sense”, “sensor” – I have to have at least one pun per article. FormatĬommonly used sensor abbreviations make absolutely no sense. For example, the 35mm Cinema, Super 35mm, and APS-C crop sensor formats are nearly the same size (look at the sensor area) but of slightly different rectangular proportions. The aspect ratio of the sensor (4:3, 3:2, 16:9) will cause some variation, too. For example, Canon’s APS-C sensor is slightly smaller than Nikon’s, but slightly larger than Sigma’s. Please note that the dimensions may vary slightly from camera to camera. The table below shows the dimensions, in millimeters, of the various sensor (or film) sizes. People want to know things like “is Super 35mm format equivalent to a crop sensor or full-frame?” Other people, trying to sell their 16mm film lenses with adapters for 4/3 cameras fail to mention how much smaller 16mm film was than 4/3 sensors. Not to mention the marketers, always ready to make things as confusing as possible, are doing things like calling a 1/1.7” sensor “large” (it is compared to a cell phone camera chip, I guess).Īnyway, since I haven’t been able to find a single source to answer all these sensor format questions, I thought I’d put it all together here. The problem is even more complicated now that SLR lenses are being used on video cameras and video lenses on SLRs cameras. Is the Canon GX-1 sensor as big as those or more like a point and shoot? Hardly a day goes by that someone doesn’t ask if the Fuji X-10 sensor is bigger than the Nikon J1 sensor. Plus Canon and Nikon have thrown new sensor sizes into the mix in the last year and a lot of people aren’t sure exactly where those sensors fit in among the better known ones. Not many, though, know how much smaller a 2/3” sensor is than a 4/3 sensor, and fewer still the difference between those and a 1/1.8” sensor. Most people know the difference between a standard (APS-C) crop sensor and a full-frame sensor. We get a lot of questions about sensor sizes and crop factors. 12/7/2023 0 Comments Theme hospital research stuckOne of the oldest hospitals in New England, McLean has treated a succession of celebrity patients, including Anne Sexton, Robert Lowell, James Taylor, and Sylvia Plath, who described it as “the best mental hospital in the US.” Laura’s psychiatrist had Ivy League degrees, and she felt grateful to have his attention. “I was trapped in the life of a stranger.”īefore Laura returned to Harvard, her doctor in Greenwich referred her to a psychiatrist at McLean Hospital, in Belmont, Massachusetts. She took literally the symbolism of the parties, meant to mark her entry into adulthood. In the morning, she told her family that she didn’t want to be alive. By the end of the party, she was sobbing so hard that the escort she’d invited to the ball had to put her in a cab. That night, before walking onstage, Laura did cocaine and chugged champagne. She wears a thin pearl necklace, and her blond hair is coiled in an ornate bun. Yet, in pictures before the second ball, Laura is slightly hunched over, as if trying to minimize the breadth of her muscular shoulders. “That was a recurring theme: whether the surface of people can ever harmonize with what’s inside their minds.” “I remember talking with her a lot about surfaces,” a classmate, Patrick Bensen, said. Other times, she was a postmodern nihilist, deconstructing the arbitrariness of language. Sometimes she fashioned herself as a “fun, down-to-earth girl” who drank until early morning with boys who considered her chill. Her roommate, Bree Tse, said, “Laura just blew me away-she was this golden girl, so vibrant and attentive and in tune with people.” On her first day at Harvard, Laura wandered the campus and thought, This is everything I’ve been working for. She hoped that she might discover a more authentic version of herself at Harvard, where she arrived as a freshman in 2001. She hid the pills in a jewelry box in her closet and then washed them down the sink. Laura was given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and prescribed Depakote, a mood stabilizer that, the previous year, had been approved for treating bipolar patients. Her parents took her to a family therapist, who, after several months, referred her to a psychiatrist. “The pain felt so real and raw and mine,” she said. She had friends at school who cut themselves with razors, and she was intrigued by what seemed to be an act of defiance. She snapped at her mother, locked herself in her room, and talked about wanting to die. The oldest of three sisters, Laura felt as if she were living two separate lives, one onstage and the other in the audience, reacting to an exhausting performance. But she doubted whether she had a “real self underneath.” She was one of those rare proportional adolescents with a thriving social life. In eighth grade, in 1996, Laura was the class president-she ran on a platform of planting daffodils on the school’s grounds-and among the best squash players in the country. Her father is related to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and her mother was introduced to society at a débutante ball at the Waldorf-Astoria. She grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, one of the wealthiest communities in the country. Laura Delano recognized that she was “excellent at everything, but it didn’t mean anything,” her doctor wrote. 12/7/2023 0 Comments Adobe premiere rush ipad proHowever, comparing Adobe Premiere Rush vs. Pitting these editing programs against each other is somewhat unfair, as they have different capabilities and intended uses. They have pages for daily and real-time trends on a national level, but there’s no way to monitor all of those trends, no way to download or export the bulk data as a CSV, and no way to get repeated, customized data consistently across a wide variety of terms without manually going in and searching each term, downloading each CSV, and compiling all of the data manually. Unfortunately for those of us in content marketing, Google Trends does not really facilitate this kind of rapid, broad-spectrum monitoring. At the same time, it requires a wide breadth of up-to-date information so you know what you’re targeting, along with a fast-turnaround content production team to capitalize on those trends as soon as possible. Trend-chasing can be an exceptional way to get a lot of short-term traffic and links. Google, positioned as they are on the cusp of all human knowledge, is able to watch the information being posted as it happens and can monitor virtually any topic to see how it changes over time or spikes in sudden interest. Looking to export our data and have more control over it? Use our Open Data API.Any time you look up ways to find keyword or topic ideas for content marketing, one of the top options you’ll find is Google Trends. For example, companies with more customers may have more complaints than companies with fewer customers. When looking at complaint volume about a company or product, consider company size and/or market share. Depending on the nature of the financial product and how consumers use the product, consumers may be harmed in ways that do not cause them to complain to the Bureau or to blame the product or provider for the harm they have suffered. The lack of complaints or a relatively low number of complaints published in the database about a product, issue, or company does not necessarily mean there is little or no consumer harm. Complaints are not “information” for purposes of the Information Quality Act. This database is not a statistical sample of consumers’ experiences in the marketplace and these complaints are not necessarily representative of all consumers’ experiences with a financial product or company. We publish the consumer’s narrative description from their complaint if the consumer opts to share it publicly and after the Bureau takes steps to remove personal information. We do not publish complaints referred to other regulators, such as complaints about depository institutions with less than $10 billion in assets. Only complaints sent to companies for response are eligible to be published and are only published after the company responds, confirming a commercial relationship or after 15 days, whichever comes first. 12/7/2023 0 Comments Andy ruiz fight today“They say this is the biggest upset since Buster Douglas,” Kimmel said, referring to Douglas’s shocking knockout of Mike Tyson, in 1990. He strolled onto the set of “ Jimmy Kimmel Live!” as a heavyweight champion and a kind of folk hero. By the following Tuesday, Ruiz’s life had changed considerably. At the end of the press conference, when the two stood side by side, with Joshua holding four championship belts, Ruiz looked less like Joshua’s opponent and more like a junior member of Joshua’s entourage. Joshua was muscular and confident Ruiz was jiggly and unassuming. Ruiz was a substitute opponent, given the fight after another boxer failed drug tests, and oddsmakers made him as a big underdog: a two-thousand-dollar bet on Joshua would have paid out only twenty-one hundred dollars. He was a competent but rather undistinguished heavyweight boxer, thrown into the biggest fight of his life, at Madison Square Garden, against Anthony Joshua, the imposing and undefeated British star, who held a handful of championship belts. He sounded as if he were only window shopping, and most people thought that was exactly what he was doing. “Those belts look really shiny-really good, man,” Andy Ruiz, Jr., said with a gentle smile, at a press conference on May 30th. 12/7/2023 0 Comments Combo cleaner for windowsIf you`ve been considering a program that will backup and keep your work synchronized - GoodSync is well worth trying.”.Ĭombo Cleaner for Mac is an antivirus and free system optimizer created by RCS Software. “GoodSync is an easy to use program which provides you with peace of mind knowing that your data is secure and that you will always have a backup available. 12/6/2023 0 Comments None of my business meme scienceThis can result in some infrastructure duplication, however some teams have adopted “data meshy” structures with platform teams owning a more centralized platform.ĭata mesh is often confused with the similar term data fabric (apparently all data analogies must be in the oil or clothing arenas), which was introduced by a Forrester analyst around the start of the millennium. The tissue connecting these domains and their associated data assets is a universal interoperability layer that applies the same syntax and data standards. Importantly and somewhat controversially, this means according to traditional data mesh principles, the domain teams own the underlying platform or data storage layer. Unlike traditional monolithic data infrastructures that handle the consumption, storage, transformation, and output of data in one central data lake, a data mesh supports distributed, domain-specific data consumers and views “data-as-a-product,” with each domain handling their own data pipelines. Borrowing Eric Evans’ theory of domain-driven design, a flexible, scalable software development paradigm that matches the structure and language of your code with its corresponding business domain. Much in the same way that software engineering teams transitioned from monolithic applications to microservice architectures, the data mesh is, in many ways, the data platform version of microservices.Īs first defined by Zhamak Dehghani in 2019, a ThoughtWorks consultant and the original architect of the term, a data mesh is a type of data platform architecture that embraces the ubiquity of data in the enterprise by leveraging a domain-oriented, self-serve design. Underpinning this desire for democratization and scalability is the realization that your current data architecture (in many cases, a siloed data warehouse or a data lake with some limited real-time streaming capabilities) may not be meeting your needs.įortunately, teams seeking a new lease on data need look no further than a data mesh, an architecture paradigm that’s taking the industry by storm. Most of all, however, your entire data team wishes there were an easier way to manage the growing needs of your organization, from fielding the never-ending stream of ad hoc queries to wrangling disparate data sources through a central ETL pipeline. Or maybe your CDO spearheaded a cross-functional initiative to educate teams on data management best practices and your CTO invested in a data engineering group. Your boss was one of the first in the industry to see the potential in Snowflake and Looker. Your company, for one, views data as a driver of innovation. In the age of self-service business intelligence, nearly every company considers themselves a data-first company, but not every company is treating their data architecture with the level of democratization and scalability it deserves. But what is a data mesh and why should you build one? Inquiring minds want to know. Ask anyone in the data industry what’s hot these days and chances are “data mesh” will rise to the top of the list. 12/6/2023 0 Comments Blue origin stockUnfortunately, the answer to the million dollar question of the day is “no.”ĭespite being owned by the founder of one of America’s most prolific giants of industry, Blue Origin is still a private company.
